Please Not Again ........
Well once again a team that sits atop of the summit fails to live up to expectations. And in the Red River Shootout between Texas and Oklahoma . We've seen another number one ranked team fall to another ranked team. Albeit that now we've seen Oklahoma fall to Texas in another excellent college football.

Both teams came out with something to prove and the #1 ranked Oklahoma Sooners knowing full well that a target was on their back played in earnest against a Texas Longhorns' team led by Colt McCoy. In this game we had two of the nation's top passers and the prerequisite amount of talent on both teams. Never mind the fact that we also had two of the top college coaches in the game orchestrating the maneuvers of their respective teams much like a chess match. In Bob Stoops and Mack Brown we had two of the very best coaches in the college game matching wits against one another. However it was meant to be Mack Brown's day today. As his team upended the Sooners in a thoroughly entertaining and thrilling game.

Oklahoma under the leadership of Bob Stoops stood atop of the mountain top knowing that a loss at this juncture would put a dent in his team's national title hopes. And with the Big 12 being akin to a conference that seems to be coming back to prominence in a big way. This game lived up to everything that one could've expected. Now the result drops the Sooners out of contention for the moment. And it casts an even greater doubts as to how they can regain their stature. For the Longhorns it places them within striking distance of the top spot amongst the college rankings. We'll no doubt have to wait for the findings of the coaches' polls as of Sunday night.
Texas safety Earl Thomas (12) intercepts a pass during the second quarter of the game that was meant for Sooners' receiver Ryan Broyles (85). The game was won by the Longhorns 45-35 and will more likely to place the team atop of the rankings. picture appears courtesy of ap/photo/ Matt Slocum .............................
As the season plays out in the grand scheme of things , it'll be hard to see what other scenarios will be played out over the remainder of the season. Inasmuch as we've seen the top teams take a tumble it would not surprise me in the least bit should Texas themselves fall to someone else along the way should they be ranked number one by the day's end. This whole season we've these teams fall like dominoes as if a tornado has seemingly cast its sight on the teams in question. The scarier the scenario becomes the more I'm inclined that if we were to bring in the writers in Hollywood. Even they couldn't come up with a better premis as to what we've witnessed so far this season.

From the start this was a shootout and it continued in that vein throughout much of the game. But we knew that these were two evenly matched teams and that they'd give each other no quarter. But mistakes came into play and it cost Oklahoma more than they could've envisaged. The play of both quarterbacks McCoy of Texas and Bradford of Oklahoma was of the highest order. But once interceptions came into play it was a misnoma that couldn't be unravelled. McCoy if anything has raised his profile and quite possibly now makes him the presumptive favorite for the Heisman Trophy. Though it can be said with the likes Chase Daniels of Missouri , Knowshon Moreno of Georgia , Matthew Stafford also of Georgia , Graham Harrell , Michael Crabtree of Texas Tech , Javon Ringer of Michigan St, and Chris Well of Ohio State. It can be said with this plethora of players . It's hard to say who'll win the trophy outright much like the national championship itself as it now stands.
Mack Brown and his players celebrate his team's win over Oklahoma and their raising of the Golden Hat Trophy which accordingly given to the winning team of the game played between Oklahoma andf Texas. picture appears courtesy of ap/photo/University of Texas/ Jim Sigmon ...................
The game itself as I've stated was one of ebbs and flows . And for those in attendance it was one where what they'd witnessed was great in a number of ways. Texas proved that they've now got to be considered amongt the contenders for the national championship. As things play themselves out through the remainder of the season. We'll see whether the likes of Missouri, Georgia , USC , Ohio State, LSU , Penn State and Texas Tech can place themselves amongst those who ought to be considered as a top tier contender. The rankings as they stand plays such a great part as to what's deemed appropriate by the BCS.

Texas can now look forward to their next game where they'll face Missouri in what we can only assume will be another make or break game for the Longhorns. Missouri ranked # 3 have their own ambitions as to the national championship. Painstaking preparations will no doubt be of the highest priority. And one thing that we can be sure of is that Mack Brown had his team prepared for this onslaught from Oklahoma. Missouri on the other hand may well be another test of the team's will and resolve. And if they can withstand that then Brown's team can't be taken lightly. Not that ever were to begin with but as we've so often already this season what we're suppose to see and what we get are indeed so different.
To the victor belongs the spoils and for Colt McCoy it was a sweet victory indeed. He gives the fans the traditional Longhorns' salute to the raucous fans in the stadium. picture appears courtesy of ap/photo/ Matt Slocum ........................
So for now whilst Texas is riding high let's see how the other teams in college football can acquit themselves this weekend. If anything you can be sure that we'll be in for at least one or two more surprises. And as crazy as it seems I for won't be entirely surprised. It's the name of the game and in the college game almost anything seems to go as of late.

- Good article....Texas will hold its own...go with me on this'un...
- good piece!! Very well written in that I got a sense of passion and exitement building up as I read along, Hope to see some more of your stuff over on the other site that I found this link. Keep up the good work!
Oh and Tophatal......could or would you ask Lana how she likes my credibility on the NFC North at this point of the season? LoL She may or may not remember, but It was funny! Take Care Bro. Peace>>> - Hey Tophat; I picked Texas to win this one on Mikes pick em game, not that I knew, I wanted to increase my lead in his contest and at this juncture I thought Texas was the best upset pick on the board. I also took Florida over LSU . Although I apreciate the MERITS of this post "Well Done Al " I have to question your leaving out Alabama on your list of contenders . I got Bama winning the Title this year. What say you? Signed B@O......
- Alabama won't go undefeated this year and it won't get in the BCS title game. Next year is another story though.
I had money on Texas... but lost it on LSU. Darn you Lana!!!! - It has been a very surprising college football season to say the least. I really though USC and Oklahoma were destined to make the BCS Title Game. Now it seems we will have the annual November pissing match about which one loss team is the strongest. I can't wait to see a playoff and have this nonsense resolved on the field. While it makes for an exciting regular season where every week seems to be do or die it seems like the college season always ends on a sour note. - St Credit
