We'll Take No Prisoners ...........................
Well this weekend will be filled with a plethora of college football games that may well seal the fate of a number of teams before the regular season culminates. There are two games that'll no doubt grab the attention of a number of fans. One in particular will pit the reigning national champions the LSU Tigers against their predecessor the Florida Gators. This game will take place in Gainesville , Florida infront of a sellout crowd. And within the SEC this may well be the game that the fans will be looking upon as a testament to what is truly good about the competitive nature of football within this conference.

The other game in question will be the Red River Shootout between the number one ranked Oklahoma Sooners against the Texas Longhorns. Both teams are resplendent in heritage and most definitely the loyalty of their fans. Infact the quartet of teams in question may well be amongst some the best supported college football programs in the nation. All four teams are ranked in the top 25 and if anything though these rankings are predicated upon the wins achieved against what one might deem lesser opponents. Each has been has hard fought nonetheless.

Surprsingly enough for the Gators they're now (2-1) within conference and (4-1) overall with a number 11 ranking in the nation. Their sole loss came at the hands of Ol' Miss 30-31, a loss which surprised many. Either be it through being ill prepared or just the fact that on the day they underestimated coach Houston Nutt's team. This much however we can be assured of they can ill afford to make the same mistake twice against an LSU team that's chomping at the bit and hoping they can lay waste to the ambitions of coach Urban Meyer and his team. For much of the regular season they've yet to have that breakout statement game. And many respects the Gators have somewhat underperformed and not met the expectations that many had hoped to see. LSU Tigers' coach Les Miles knows full well what'll ensue once this game gets underway and most definitely will have team ready for the arduous challenge that he sees ahead for his team.

The game itself between Texas and Oklahoma will bring together two teams that've much to be admired with. Again we've got two teams that tend to bring out the best in each other when they play. And this time around there's no reason to believe that we won't be in for another treat if they both play up to their full potential. And the two coaches of the respective teams Bob Stoops of Oklahoma and Mack Brown of Texas are of a proven quantity and quality. Both having won national championships and celebrated amongst their peers as being amongst the very best the game has to offer by way of their coaching abilties. However this Saturday not only will be about coaching but also the will of both teams and their eagerness to play each other at full speed. Nuances or not these games'll be predicated upon skill , athleticism and determination.

The game itself was won by the Sooners in an emphatic fashion 49-17 in Waco, Texas. picture appears courtesy of ap/photo/Tony Gutierrez ...............
The ambitions of these quartet of teams won't be lost on their fans . As nothing short of a BCS Bowl game or the national championship itself would be deemed something of a failure. Conference titles or championships are one thing. But nothing legitimizes the achievements of a collge football program more than a national championship. And for these quartet of teams laden with stars it benefits their programs if the games played result in not only a win , excitement for the fans but also it assists in the recruiting of future players. That's the bread and butter of the program besides offcourse the prestige and the large payout that a BCS Bowl appearance brings. The national championship payout brings with it in excess of $17,500,000 along with the prestige of being anointed champions of national college football amongst the Division 1A teams.

And with stars such as Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin ,Jake Lee, Chris Ogbonnaya all having a desire to one day play in the NFL . Games such as these are unrivalled in their prestige . One can well understand their wish to acquit themselves well on the field of play. If nothing else a moment of brilliance if only but for a brief moment will be embedded on the minds of scouts , GM's and NFL coaches alike. Say nothing of which the fans themselves will find it all the more enthralling. These games may will be played at an unrelenting pace and it'll take a bold prognosticator to predict the results of each. An for those amongst us who feel that Florida will have the determined advantage over LSU or vice versa . It'll be hard to predict the likely outcome. The same can be said for the game between Texas and Oklahoma who it always seems bring out the best in each other, no matter where the venue happens to be.

So as we move closer to the Saturday and the games themselves let's just hope we can enjoy the proceedings. The games themselves ought to be fun to watch. Look forward to it all and by all means come back let me know your thoughts on the games in question and beyond.
